Let me first express how very important it is to master SEO to get the best results for your business before you attempt any marketing. So lets start from the beginning and I’ll explain what SEO is.

SEO stands for:

Engine

Optimization

Basically what this means is that to succeed in business on the Internet you first should ask “What do I need to do to get my website to rank as close as possible to the first position on Google, Yahoo, Msn, etc..”

We’ll use Google for this case.

All website owners want their site to be on the top of Google when someone is searching for their keyword, and the search engines pick up on several factors about your site to determine where you will be placed. So lets start with Keywords.

When you go to google.com there is a box on the page that allows you to type in what your searching for, press “google search” and you’re on your way. The text you type into that box is what’s called “keywords”. So you first should determine which words are used to search for your site.

An eample of this would be, if I had a website about growing flowers then I might use keywords like “roses, gardening, exoitic flowers, etc…” I’m obviously not an expert on flowers so you would have to add your proper keywords, but you get the idea.

Next, choose what the main page is you’re wanting people to find first on your site, then you can begin adding your keyword to that page. You can’t just type the same keywords over and over because the search engines will detect this as spam and ignore you. The ideal amount of keywords you should add are about 3% – 5% for your page. So if you have an entire page of quality content, make sure you have no more that 5% keywords for the amount of text you type. There’s a great software program called “IBP & Arelis”, if you get a chance purchase this program and use it to help you sort through you keywords and help you create top SEO results, they are awesome.

Back links are also very important. The more links you have linking back to you from other websites the more Google thinks you’re popular and moves you up quicker. So to create tons of links try various options like creating a lot of videos and submit them to various video sharing sites. Create articles on the business or product you offer with your link attached. Submit your link to search engines ( there are tons of them ). The more ideas you can think of to add your link out there, the more it helps to build your success.

Meta Tags

Defined as: “A HTML tag that provides information about the web page. Meta tags may contain information about what the page is about”

These are similar to keywords and are instead added to the title of the search result that you will find when searching through Google. Depending on what program you use to create your website there are different ways to add the meta tags. I have used Yahoo site builder in the past and it is real easy to simply type in the search title you wish to appear, add a website description, then add keywords. If you are uncertain on how to add meta tags to your site, refer to your “help” section.

These are just a few ideas to help you achieve the top search engine results. My advice for those building an online business is that you work on mastering SEO and create the best optimized webpage you can and then move into marketing. This way you ensure to get the best results every time.
