Vlog Day 9

I didn’t get a chance to shoot a video so I’m doing this the old fashion way tonight.

I studied the homepage on the blog because something just seemed kinda odd.  I think it’s its all of the vlog entries cluttering up the front page. I still feel that adding these videos are a great idea and since I’ve started shooting them I’ve had an increasing number of site views, but there are so many on the front page that it gives new site visitors the impression that I don’t have a lot of content. Unless they spend a little time searching through the categories. But honestly, the average time you have to capture your viewers attention once they land on your homepage is about 15 seconds, and I don’t want them to get the wrong idea and leave out of boredom.

So I’m thinking of creating a static page and giving the homepage a new look. A static page is a separate customized page that you can use to direct others to specified content when they first arrive at your site. Using a page like this will allow you choose exactly what you want them to first see, such as a welcome message, a featured product, important updates, and so on.

So my plan is to make a static page with a welcome video and give the visitor an introduction to who I am and what the site is all about. I can also point out the various categories and content, or I could even hype up the free products they can get for subscribing to my list. Then I can always refer them to the most recent blog entries link if I want to bring them to the standard homepage that I currently use.

There’s a lot of options with using a static page and I’m thinking that this is the way to go (it would help it feel a little more organized).
